What I Learned from Jaya Kishori on MONEY and SPIRITUALITY

By Neeti Keswani – Business Storytelling Coach | Ho’oponopono Practitioner | Host of Luxury Unplugged Podcast

Can money and spirituality co-exist?
Are they fundamentally contradictory—or could they actually be allies on your path to authentic success?

In today’s Luxury Unplugged Podcast episode, we explore this thought-provoking intersection—a conversation sparked by public reaction to Jaya Kishori, a renowned spiritual teacher and Bhagavad Gita orator, being spotted carrying a designer handbag and wearing a Rolex watch.

This sparked controversy and raised an important question:
Should a spiritual person own luxury items?
Let’s dive deep into this soulful reflection.

🎙️ The Controversy Around Spirituality & Luxury

Recently, Jaya Kishori—known for her spiritual discourses and devotion to scripture—was seen with luxury accessories. As soon as images of her with a designer handbag and Rolex surfaced, the internet was ablaze with opinions.

Some questioned her authenticity as a spiritual leader. Others defended her right to enjoy material comforts.

But my question to you is this:
Should we judge someone’s inner peace by their outer appearance?

Before you answer, let’s unpack this further.

🌺 The Bigger Question Behind the Bag

Let’s say you walk into a store.
You see something that resonates—a pair of shoes, a beautiful coat, a handcrafted bag. You’re not looking at the brand. You feel connected to it.

You have the means to purchase it.
You’re not buying it to impress others—you’re buying it because it aligns with your energy.

    Is that wrong?

    According to Jaya Kishori herself:

“I don’t buy things because they are branded. If I like something and can afford it, I buy it—for myself, my family, or my friends.”

And she makes conscious choices—like avoiding leather products—based on her spiritual principles.

So where does the judgment come from?

🧘‍♀️ Is Luxury Opposed to Spirituality?

    Let’s challenge the assumption:
What if luxury isn’t the opposite of spirituality—but a byproduct of it?

When someone reaches inner peace, their outer world begins to reflect abundance.
A luxurious lifestyle can become an outcome, not a contradiction, of spiritual growth.

We often associate spiritual people with renunciation—monks, sages, and minimalism.
But consider this: The Bhagavad Gita—one of the world’s most revered spiritual texts—was not delivered to a monk in the forest. It was given to Arjuna, a warrior prince wearing armor and gold.

And what did Lord Krishna say?

“Do your karma. Perform your action.”

💎 Can You Wear a Crown and Still Be Conscious?

Jaya Kishori speaks of kings who lived in palaces, adorned in gold, yet practiced detachment.

Spirituality is not about rejection—it is about intention.

It’s not about what you wear.
It’s about how you wear your values.

Wearing a designer bag does not mean you’re attached. Just like wearing saffron robes doesn’t automatically make you enlightened.

    True spirituality is:

    • Peaceful in presence
    • Aligned in action
    • Conscious in choices

💖 Spirituality Isn’t About Being a Sage on the Outside

    This is your reminder:
You can walk your path in peace and Prada.

You can live with inner stillness while enjoying outer abundance.

When you buy something—not to show off, but because it feels good in your soul—that’s not vanity. That’s vibrational alignment.

Spirituality teaches us to be centered inside, then move outward into the world—not escape from it.

🌊 The Energy of Intentional Purchases

When your soul is nourished, your surroundings shift.

    You begin to:

    • Attract what resonates
    • Buy what reflects your frequency
    • Express yourself without apology

Whether that’s a Gucci handbag or a pair of handwoven sandals, the intention behind the purchase matters more than the price tag.

Luxury is not loud when it’s aligned.
It becomes a subtle echo of inner richness.

🌟 True Abundance Is Inside Out

    Let’s redefine abundance.

    It’s not about accumulating things.
It’s about knowing you are enough—and choosing from that space.

When your inner life is rich, your outer world reflects that calm clarity:

    • Your wardrobe evolves
    • Your business expands
    • Your relationships deepen

This is true luxury unplugged—not driven by ego but by essence.

🧘‍♂️ What Can We Learn from Jaya Kishori?

Whether you agree or not with her lifestyle choices, the bigger invitation here is to reflect on your own beliefs:

    • Can a spiritual person enjoy beautiful things?
    • Is renunciation required for enlightenment?
    • Can luxury be an expression of gratitude, not greed?

    The truth is:
Spirituality and luxury can co-exist—when they are both conscious.

You can be stylish and self-aware.
You can have a Rolex and still have reverence.
You can meditate in a Mercedes or a monastery—it’s the mindset, not the model.

🧠 Final Thought: It’s Not About the Bag

It’s about why you carry it.
It’s about whether your purchases reflect your alignment or your insecurity.

When someone judges you for looking too “luxurious,” ask:

“Am I living in alignment with my values?”
    If yes, let them judge.

Your outer life is not for their approval.

You can walk this world fully present, fully free—and fully you.
